Inside 43215: Downtown Draw
NO BLUE SUEDE SHOES – ONLY GREAT MUSIC
Remember Graceland? No, Elvis is not in the building. We’re talking about the harmonizing, dynamic and energizing Ladysmith Black Mambazo who shared the stage with the likes of Paul Simon, Rod Stewart, Eric Clapton, Joe Cocker, Phil Collins and so many more. Ladysmith Black Mambazo is coming to town on February 8, and we have tickets to give away.
For more than 40 years, Ladysmith Black Mambazo has touched a worldwide audience as they belted out intricate rhythms and harmonies of their native South African musical traditions. There’s no resting on their laurels though. This internationally acclaimed group has just released a new concert DVD and a children’s project so you are in for a treat when they arrive in Cbus.
For one night only, CAPA, in association with the King Arts Complex, brings Ladysmith Black Mambazo to Southern Theatre at 8pm on Wednesday, February 8. Tickets are $28 and $33 at the Ohio Theatre Ticket Office (39 E. State St.), all Ticketmaster outlets, and ticketmaster.com. You can even purchase by phone at (614) 469-0939 or (800) 745-3000.
If you’re feeling lucky, enter to win a pair of tickets. Just tell us what kind of articles you like to see in Right Now Downtown every week and you will be entered to win. Good Luck.

I like articles about new businesses and events.

I like to see articles about how to get involved Downtown; what Central Ohio companies (including arts companies) are doing for their communities; articles about great lunch locations and family-friendly weekend activities.

I think the article mix is very good. I particularly enjoy hearing about new dining opportunities and cultural events downtown, and the weekly update covers that very well. It might be interesting to have some more coverage of people living downtown and how that works for them. Thanks!

I agree with Keely, it would be nice to see more articles about community involvement and volunteer service opportunities downtown both during and after a normal workday. I also enjoy the restaurant features and would welcome more of those on a weekly basis.

ditto Keely and Megan, all great ideas…Once Spring hits, Columbus comes alive, yet I would like to see more information written about Winter activities and strategy meetings, perhaps how to get involved in organizations that are trying to make Downtown a better area to live, work and play. Columbus has made tremendous strides in truly making itself a walkable city.

I am very aware of what is going on downtown as I work here and am involved in many of the arts organizations hosting events like Ladysmith Black Mambazo.
However, what makes “Right Now Downtown” helpful to me are the reminders/updates the week of or week before the event that I considered attending but never committed to. It is a small service but very instrumental in making sure patrons “seal the deal” and actually attend events. This is VITAL to the success of the organizations like CAPA who host them.
I am also a big fan of anything that occurs right after work – so I can spend Happy Hour downtown instead of having to stop in the Short North on my way home. Thanks for sharing those events – family friendly or not!

I’d like to see a calendar of events for more than just the upcoming week. Also like info on places to eat downtown and events at the theatres.

I like to see information about downtown non-profits and the good work we do. The support for local art galleries (like Fresh AIR Gallery) is much appreciated!
