Downtown Dish: Almost five years serving those who crave Indian
Keep your fingers crossed: Indian Oven, the fave spot for Bengali fare at 427 E. Main St., is considering Sunday hours beginning this fall. That’s good news for anyone in love with the Oven’s fabulous stuffed breads and shrimp dishes. Several of the Chef Specials, which change nightly, feature Bangladesh shrimp, which owner and chef Murad describes as short, sturdy, and “the best shrimp in the world.” Bread offerings, meanwhile, include Tandoori options or ones stuffed with meat and potatoes. Come April, it will be four and a half years since Indian Oven moved to the Market District from just north of OSU campus, where it opened in 1996. Murad’s regulars have been making the trip for just as long. “I have so many loyal fans who moved with me,” he said. “This is the best location I’ve ever had.” Indian Oven is open weekdays 11:30 a.m.-3 p.m. for lunch, which includes a buffet option, and 5-10 p.m. for dinner; Saturday hours are 1-10 p.m. Carry-out is available.
