Convention Center Hotel

When the $140 million Hilton Convention Center Hotel opens in September 2012, Columbus will become the best place in America to host a convention.

Of course: we’re already centrally located, the capital of comfort food and great friendly Midwestern folks.  When it’s time to convene in a spot that appeals to diverse membership from across the nation, Columbus is the obvious choice.

The amazing Columbus Convention Center is already a premier venue for conventions, meetings and trade shows.  Right now it helps bring in 7.2 billion tourism dollars in Franklin County. The Center could bring in even more revenue  . . . if it had more hotel accommodations for guests.

The Convention Center Hotel IS the missing piece of our puzzle.

The numbers are impressive. The $140 million investment is projected to bring 550 jobs (from construction to restaurant management), and generate a projected $2.3 million in annual sales, lodging and taxes.

That’s just the tip of the iceberg. With 500 rooms, it has the power to generate an additional 52, 000 annual room nights in convention center business.  That’s another 52,000 visitors to Columbus restaurants and businesses.

Enhancing the opportunity is a 900 space parking garage that will be adjacent to the site.  Construction began in summer 2010, with completion set for the end of 2012.

Partners on this project include the City of Columbus, the Franklin County Commissioners and the Franklin County Convention Facilities Authority.
