Donation Drive to support homeless shelters during winter overflow
As summer winds down and the colder weather startsto set in, the Downtown homeless shelters prepare for their busiest months of the year. Every year from October 15 through April 15, the homeless shelters go into "winter overflow" months. They will expand their residential capacity so that people without housing can stay in a warm, safe place and utilize supportive services offered by the shelters
To assist the shelters during this time of need, Capital Crossroads SID coordinates a donation drive to collect much needed supplies for the shelters.
Bare Necessities Donation Drive 2008, October 13-November 14
This year, Capital Crossroads SID is sponsoring a “Bare Necessities” Drive to provide homeless individuals residing in these shelters with the “basics” that all of us need and use on a daily basis. From October 13 – November 14, Capital Crossroads will be collecting sample size toiletries and men and women’s packaged underwear. Examples of acceptable items are:
- Unopened travel-sized toiletries, such as shampoo, conditioner, bars of soap, and lotion
- Packaged undergarments such as undershirts, socks, and underwear (men and women)
All items will be donated to the shelters the week before Thanksgiving. Donation bins are located throughout the downtown at the following locations:
